"The mediums of video and photography allow me to interpret my relationships and surroundings the way the naked eye and conscious mind cannot. I set my own rules, manipulating, deconstructing, and transforming everyday life into entertainment through sound, color, dialogue and time. Irony, drama, and exaggeration inevitably mesh with my anthropological approach."
-Kurt Gibert Wahlstrom

Kurt Gilbert Wahlstrom is a Massachusetts/New England native video artist and photographer currently living in Brooklyn, NY. He is a graduate of the Art Institute of Boston at Lesley University, and has exhibited work in various galleries/museums, aired on various Public Access TV stations, and screened at numerous film festivals. He was recently selected (one of six) for the juror's pick/prize in the Attleboro Arts Museum "HOME" exhibit, by juror Nick Capasso (DeCordova Museum & Sculpture Park). He was also nominated the "Entertainment Variety" category winner in the 2006 Hometown Video Awards (local cable's largest video awards). He also recently curated a contemporary art exhibit featuring 17 artists, and has produced several documentaries on local exhibits and artists for local air. Kurt is also a musician (composer, performer) and can be found playing in various indie, punk, and reggae/ska acts around NYC and Boston on occasion (including The Allstonians, Pressure Cooker, Marc Orrell and the 57th Clover, Aric Charles, and The Sharp Lads).

"Kurt Gilbert Wahlstrom creates charmingly low-tech videos that incorporate his family and friends in vignettes that work as metaphors and encapsulations of his relationships. His parents have been his most consistent focus, and in momdadkuretshimmy, we are treated to a “day in the life” scenario with Wahlstrom, his blue-collar parents, and their dog Shimmy as the main players. Interchanging roles, Wahlstrom and his mom and dad alternately portray themselves and each other with telling details that paint a sweet and quirky portrait."
