He has also appeared & hosted his own show on public access television, in addition to curating art shows. Kurt is a Creative Specialist / Project Manager at Blue 449 (a Publicis Groupe agency) where he's involved with many LGBTQ initiatives, from managing a pro-bono relationship with GLSEN & leading their agency's employee resource group chapter, Égalité. He also occasionally performs (bass) with various indie acts including the The Sharp Lads.

statement

The mediums of photography and video allow me to capture and interpret my relationships and surroundings the way the naked eye and conscious mind cannot.  By documenting my everyday personal, social and cultural experiences through snapshots, or video performances, I am able to deconstruct and reconstruct situations, fictionalizing or exaggerating them to suggest a new, parallel, inverted narrative/reality.  Comedic parameters and sarcasm, whether subtle or blatant, inevitably mesh with my anthropological approach.

testimonials

"Kurt Gilbert Wahlstrom creates charmingly low-tech videos that incorporate his family and friends in vignettes that work as metaphors and encapsulations of his relationships. His parents have been his most consistent focus, and in momdadkuretshimmy, we are treated to a “day in the life” scenario with Wahlstrom, his blue-collar parents, and their dog Shimmy as the main players. Interchanging roles, Wahlstrom and his mom and dad alternately portray themselves and each other with telling details that paint a sweet and quirky portrait." -Laura Donaldson, Mills Gallery, Boston Center for the Arts

"...what might happen if Salvador Dali filmed sketches about middle class American life for Saturday Night Live with a camcorder.” -Chris Orchard, South End News
